Do you desire to make changes in your business but deliberate on which direction to take or whether you’re on the right path?
I want you to know that it is perfectly normal to feel discomfort when you’re stepping out of your comfort zone. As a business owner, you’re continuously evolving and expanding so it’s perfectly normal to feel discomfort when doing something new.
Those who create huge success in their business understand that this is part of the process and it’s completely normal to feel this way.
The primitive part of your brain is designed to seek familiarity and it doesn’t like the unknown. It’s designed to avoid change at all costs, so when you decide to do something new that pushes you out of your comfort zone, you can start to experience discomfort because your brain wants to protect you from potential threats.
Know that fear is designed to keep you safe. It’s your brain’s way of protecting you so it will do anything it can to keep you in your comfort zone.
Learning how to embrace discomfort and how to support your own mindset whilst growing your business will determine your success and, more importantly, how you feel on the way.
In this blog post, I am going to share how you can move past your fears and limitations as you step out of your comfort zone so you can elevate and move forward in your business.
Leaving the comfort zone and moving to the growth zone requires you to move past the fear zone. Whilst in the fear zone, it’s normal to lack confidence and feel uncomfortable. It takes courage to step into the fear zone and it can bring up a whole host of feelings – discomfort, self-doubt, fear, uncertainty, anxiety…
This can feel challenging but remember that you can start to grow and feel more confident after you’ve pushed past the fear. Remember that your brain wants you to stay in your comfort zone so look out for signs of self-sabotage or procrastination.
The fear zone also allows you to witness the beliefs that are running in your subconscious mind as they will become louder. This provides a great opportunity for you to step into self-leadership and challenge whether those beliefs still serve you.
It’s important to stay connected to your own vision and desires as you can be affected by other people’s opinions during this phase. Ask yourself, what will happen if I succeed? What will my life be like?
If you embrace the uncertainty of the fear zone and move through it, you’ll reach the learning zone and expand your ability to create a new level of success. You’ll gain new insights and skills and then you’ll enter the growth zone.
The growth zone is where you learn to set new goals and live them out. This is the place from which you’ll take action and support yourself to develop a stronger belief that you’ll succeed.
This process isn’t necessarily linear, but once you get to the growth zone, your aspirations become your reality and you can self-actualise and reach your full potential.
I’d recommend reading more about Abraham Maslow’s (1943) Theory of Human Motivation if you’d like to learn more about self-actualisation.
Self-awareness is key to managing challenges. Self-awareness allows you to identify how you feel as you step out of your comfort zone. When you’re able to identify how you’re feeling, you can use it as information about what beliefs are running in your subconscious mind that may be keeping you stuck.
Begin by checking in on yourself and by becoming more self-aware. Ask yourself, how am I feeling right now? What are my thoughts?
Note any situations that bring up challenging emotions. Ask yourself what triggers you within you in those situations. From there, you can identify the limiting belief.
Your beliefs act as a lens through which you see the world. You may think the beliefs you hold are factual but often they have been programmed through the beliefs of others around you.
Challenging your beliefs and exploring other perspectives can be uncomfortable but it enables growth and empowers you to choose what is and isn’t serving you.
Start by writing down a list of your fears and insecurities. Then, question them and ask yourself if they are true. Look for evidence to prove or disprove them and reflect on whether they enable you to grow or if they are holding you back.
Then, you can decide on the new belief you would like to have instead.
Once you are aware of a certain belief, start to catch it in the moment. Remind yourself that it is not true. Then, affirm your new belief to yourself and choose to do something different. Choose to take action against the belief you know is not true and not serving you anymore.
When your thoughts, feelings, and actions align with these new beliefs, you will create new neural pathways. These new neural pathways will support the highest version of you – the version of you underneath your fears and insecurities.
When you understand neuroplasticity and the brain’s ability to change and adapt due to experience, you become empowered to create new neural pathways that will support you through the fear zone into the growth zone.
If you’d like to identify and move beyond any mindset blocks, I recommend downloading my free training – The Psychology of Business Success. You’ll learn more about the most common psychological blocks that are preventing us from creating the success we desire.
Start by identifying some of the things that you want to do, but are afraid of doing. This is where your comfort zone ends and the fear zone begins.
Focus on identifying where staying in your comfort zone is holding you back. Identify areas in your life and business where staying in your comfort zone is causing unfulfillment.
Once you have done this, you can then set clear intentions about what you want to change and create an action plan to bring this into your reality.
Ask yourself, what do I want to achieve? What steps do I need to take to get there? What do I need to let go of?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try to think about the next step to take, not the big end goal. This will help you manage the discomfort associated with stepping out of your comfort zone.
Also, keep track of your wins, no matter how small they are. When you experience discomfort, reflect on your progress so far. Celebrate how far you’ve already come and remind yourself of your wins and successes.
When discomfort and fear pop up – and they will pop up as you take yourself out of your comfort zone – you can calm your nervous system with different techniques.
One way to do this is to use grounding techniques to calm your nervous system and to remind yourself – and your brain – that you are safe.
Take yourself either physically or in your mind to a place where you feel safe and comfortable. Imagine yourself in a safe environment, literally anywhere, or with a safe person, and allow yourself to relax there as long as you need.
Another way to do this is through the use of affirmations. Affirmations are positive and uplifting statements that help you overcome fears and negative thought patterns.
Repeated use of affirmations can help you create new neural pathways in your brain. This, in turn, will help you become the best version of yourself and achieve your goals.
Affirmations can help you take consistent action towards the things you desire to achieve. The more you repeat a certain affirmation and the more you take action towards your goals, the more you are going to feel the affirmation become part of your identity.
Using affirmations is one daily mindset practice I recommend to all my clients so try to repeat affirmations as much as possible. I recommend creating a daily routine for repeating your affirmations. This can be in the morning after waking up, at lunchtime, or in the evening before bed.

When you co-create with your superconscious mind, making money in your business will happen faster and easier than ever before (without you doing more).
You’re on the cusp of another up level. You’ve felt the inner knowing for a while now but you’re yet to break through that glass ceiling.
You’ve utilised the principles of manifestation to get to where you are now but you’re missing something.
And intuitively, you know what that missing something is…
It’ll be found through reconnecting to that space where your ideas are delivered to you via your superconscious mind. They download seemingly out of nowhere. As do events, circumstances and opportunities that your mind and will couldn’t have created alone.
Understanding The Art and Science of manifestation will guide you to understand manifestation at a new depth. In my free 2 part coaching activation, you will gain a new level of self-awareness so you can realign your vibration frequency to manifest your desires over and over again.
